Teaching and Instructional Experience

My career in higher education began in 2008. Although I originally intended to teach secondary education and am currently certified to teach grades 6–12 in speech communication, it was a regional community college that offered me a position—thus beginning my career as a higher education professional.

I designed the curriculum, the evaluations, and taught the following courses multiple times:

  • Introduction to Communication
  • Public Speaking
  • Business and Professional Communication
  • Argumentation & Debate
  • Introduction to Mass Communication
  • Introduction to Electronic Media

I designed the curriculum, the evaluations, and taught the following courses under supervision or as exclusive engagements:

  • Introduction to Rhetoric
  • Media & Society
  • Media Literacy
  • Advanced Oral Communication
  • Story, Popular Culture and Worldview
  • Advanced Communication Theory
  • Redemptive Cinema

When I first started teaching I knew I had to find a corduroy blazer to wear to class as that was the classic image of the college professor I had seen in media. What’s ironic is that I never saw nor do I remember any corduroy blazers being worn by any of the professors in my history of being a student.

Photo for reference:

And this wonderful corduroy blazer still hangs in my closet, just waiting to be worn again!

I record narrated videos of the PowerPoint presentations I use in class and upload them to the learning management system, allowing students to revisit the lectures and review the content covered.

Students are provided with paper copies of viewing notes to complete as the lecture progresses.
