I have loved electronic mass media for as long as I can remember. Please enjoy these samples of media that I have created over the years.

Emil’s Phone Rant, The Rivers and the Ravines (circa 2003) video
A high school classmate and accomplished theater director and actress, Erin, asked me to audition for a part in a play she was directing. I was thrilled! Of course, I said yes! The character was a farmer facing the loss of his farm and land due to foreclosure. In this scene, I had to perform a monologue to a rural telephone hotline. Erin told me to not hold back. I’m proud of this performance even though I had no formal training in acting. It was fun to do and my thanks to Erin for the opportunity to act under her direction.
The quality is not the greatest as this was recorded on VHS tape, then transferred to DVD, then to MP4:
Television
I love television as a viewer. I have had a few instances of being in front of the camera.
Television Field Production
I tried to take the assignment seriously. I really did try. undergraduate television field production class was dispatched to a Habitat For Humanity location to produce a piece about the progress being made that could, ideally, be aired on the evening news of a local television station.
You can’t say I didn’t try…
State of the Union
One of my television production classes visited one of the local news stations and we got to record a brief segment about a current news item. You can probably see why I did not make it very far as an evening news anchor.

On the Consequences of Advertising
This short rant was offered as a pat of an extra credit component for an Introduction to Mass Communication class. I lovingly recall a wonderful food product from the early 1990’s…
COVID-19 Video Conference from the Comfort Suites in Marshall, Texas
Funny story about this video: I was visiting friends in Marshall, Texas, and had to teach a public speaking class via video conference using the hotel’s Wi-Fi, a gaming headset, and a laptop that was on the verge of obsolescence. The hotel room was extremely cold, and I couldn’t turn off the air conditioner. The desk I was sitting at was positioned directly under the fan, so my voice and nasal passages were being directly affected by the freezing air.
