Student Email Example #3 (Detailed Behavioral Request)

Topic: Requesting Behavioral Change

Audience: Unspecified Undergraduate Student

Intended Reaction: Inform and Persuade towards Action

Scenario: Reminding Students to Wear Masks

Hi.

My Associate Dean has requested that I remind all students enrolled in my on-campus classes that wearing masks while on-campus is required.

You do not have to agree with the mask mandate.

You do not have to like the mask mandate.

You do not have to like wearing a mask and I certainly do not like reminding students on-campus and in class to wear a mask, but the college has instituted a mask mandate and as an enrolled student it is important that you acknowledge and follow the campus protocols.

So please wear your mask while you are on-campus.

You are not doing this for me, you are doing this for the safety and wellbeing of others.

So think of it this way: I do not want others to get sick.

That is easy to remember, and you are helping other people stay safe and healthy.

We are in this together. We may disagree and have differing viewpoints, but as a community of higher education we need to work together as we learn together.

For the consideration of others please wear your mask while on-campus.

And once we are on the other side of the pandemic, we can all complement one another on how much we missed seeing each other’s smiles.

😉
